Lymphoscintigraphy

General

  • Tracer: Sulfur Colloid

  • Give radiotracer and see where it goes, typically to identify sentinel lymph node

    • Most commonly for melanoma and breast cancer

    • Surgeon will then use a gamma camera to identify the node in surgery

    • They also use blue dye to identify the node/drainage pattern

    • Sometimes will not obtain images after tracer is given for breast cancer because the axillary node is easily identified by gamma camera in the OR

  • Cutaneous malignancy (melanoma) —> intradermal injection

  • Breast cancer —> subcutaneous areolar or peri-tumoral

  • All purpose parallel hole collimator used
