Meckel Scan
General
Congenital diverticulum secondary to fibrous degeneration of the omphalomesenteric (vitelline duct)
This is a true diverticulum
Blood supply from omphalomesenteric artery, a branch of the SMA
Meckel Scan
Tc-Na-Pertechnetate
Tracer will be taken up by gastric tissue, in this case the ectopic gastric tissue
But note that if this is one of the cases of meckels not caused by ectopic gastric tissue (i.e. pancreatic) it may be falsely negative
Images obtained
Immediately at 1 frame/s for 60 s
Then every 5-10 min for 1 hr
Get 30 minute dynamic images (not really sure tbh, this was the answer to a question)
These can then be used to make 10-15 minutes groups I guess
H2 blockers can be used to increase senitivity
Decrease secretion of gastric tissue but also increase uptake by gastric cells so will be increased tracer uptake
Oral - give 2 days prior
IV - give 1 hour prior
