Sulfur Colloid Exam

General

  • Sulfur Colloid imaging is basically to look at the spleen

  • Normally should have homogenous uptake throughout the spleen similar in darkness to the liver

Interpretation

  • The vast majority of questions I have seen have been identifying splenosis

    • Typically question will include statement of hx of prior trauma/remote hx of trauma to tell you they had an injury to spleen and it was taken out and the residual uptake is splenosis

    • May also show signs of sickle cell on bone or other clues to show why spleen is absent basically

  • s

Normal uptake in liver. Focal area of uptake in left upper quadrant consistent with accessory splenule.
