Ultrasound

Posterior Acoustic Enhancement (Increased through transmission)

  • Seen commonly with cysts (since they are hypo-echoic)

  • I think of this as the cyst or other hypoechoic material is easy to travel through so the echo waves dont have to exert much energy to get through and therefore hit the tissue deep to it harder than it would hit if it had to travel through normal tissue and therefore it appears brighter (increased echogenicity)

CT

Ring artifact

  • Looks like a ring that should not be there

  • Only seen in 3rd gen scanners

  • Caused by defective detector elements

  • Can only be fixed by fixing the scanner

  • Image from radprimer
